SURVIVAL ORGINS? (warning: Spoilers!)

Okay, before I begin, I want to apologize for the lack of inactivity on our Halloween event! We planned to post and be very active, but so much has happened that it was hard to find a moment to blog. And sadly, our annual meet and greet costume contest has been canceled for the month, but fear not! We are planning something fun in thanksgiving to make up for it:). But we are super glad to be back in the community and of course back to blogging. Now let’s get back to the actual post!  A long long time ago, I made a post about the orgins of Pelican Rock. That was pretty old, and I am going to revise it and repost it soon, and I thought, why not make it a series? So this is the first post of The Orgins Series, which will be about what our favorite Poptropica Islands were inspired from. You can comment and request ideas for this as well!

Survival Island. Now, when I think of this, this, only one person pops in my head: Myron Van Buren. And did you know that the creators didn’t just have this character idea  on the top of their heads. The whole gameplay for chapter 3 & 4 of survival Island was based on the short story  “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Conell which was published in 1924. Let me give you a quick summary, but I also suggest you read the story because it is very captivating! Warning: May be Intense for some!

A big game hunter by the name of Sanger Rainsford falls off a yacht in the middle of the night after hearing gunshots. He swims to a nearby abandoned island and passes out from exhaustion. When he wakes up, he finds he is in a manor that belongs to wealthy General Zaroff and his assistant Ivan. Zaroff recognizes Zaroff from his hunting novels, and they have dinner. Then Sanger learns about a huge hunt Zaroff keeps talking about, only to learn they hunt for humans because they are challenging to catch. They give Rainsford  a three hour head start to hide from their three vicious blood hounds. Looks like Sanger is going to have to use his wits to outsmart General Zaroff and save his life!

Sound familiar? There are lots of similarities in the Island gameplay, but they also changed and added characters and plot such as the chef and butler. I think it’s a perfect spooky tale to tell for Halloween!
